The Social Experiment

Social Experiment

By Engineer of Knowledge

Through my personal and professional life, I have come to know and interact with a lot of those with conservative view points. I want to make the point that they truly are good people at heart and I really like most of them.  But like Abraham Lincoln said, “You can fool all of the people some of the time, and some of the people all of the time, but you can’t fool all of the people all of the time.”

These good people often quote what they hear stated from sources like Fox News, O’ Reilly, Hannity, and Beck, believing their statements to be true and accurate.  One of my favorite miss-statements here of late is that Fannie Mae and Freddy Mac were just two more government programs started by the Bill Clinton administration that led us to this housing financial crash that has devastated the world financial markets.  I then inform them that the truth of the matter is that Fannie Mae started in 1938 to provide liquidity to the mortgage market and became a stockholder-owned corporation chartered in 1968 during the Nixon years.  Freddy Mac is also a private corporation that was created in 1970 to expand the secondary market for mortgages.  So, contrary to the latest misleading information from the conservative personalities noted above, Fannie Mae and Freddy Mac do not make home loans directly to consumers, are not a government agencies started by Bill Clinton in the mid-1990’s, but are actually private corporations with stockholders.

The look on these good people’s faces when they check my statements for themselves, trying to disprove me and find out the truth that these conservative blowhards have passed on incorrect information that they accepted as being fact, is one of bewilderment and confusion.  So after listening to all of the latest miss-information, half-truths, and yes even lies, like the noted example above being just one, I decided to engage in a social experiment myself.

I wanted to see just how different groups of basically good people with these conservative viewpoints can be misled.  I created a liberal bashing piece that I post in the “Comment Section” identifying myself as “Fighter For Faith From the Front Lines.”  What I did was take the essay written by Joseph Goebbels in 1935 called “The Jew,” “The attack, Essays from the fight time” and just replace the statements noting where the words “Jew” was and replaced with “Liberal.”  In place of “we” when Goebbels was referencing the Nazi Party and “German people” I substituted “Conservatives” or “Conservative Americans.”  Other than those few words, I left the exact same words of hate and intolerance that Goebbels had directed towards the Jewish people.  So I took my newly formed document spewing the same hate and intolerance directly towards what the Conservative Blog sites viewed in their own minds as being liberal.  The document just uses the word “Liberals” in generalization type arguments, just as Joseph Goebbels did, which allows others to interpret the comments based on their own thoughts and viewpoints of what “Liberal” means to them.  Of course any student who has taken English 101 knows that any generalized statement can be too easily discredited allowing the argument to be negated but it stills takes some effort from the reader to apply this to what they have just read.  If they are agreeing with what is being said and interpreted by their personal mindset, most will never apply this rule of logical argumentation on a personal level of their everyday life.

After posting this document in the “Comment Section” of about half a dozen Conservative Blog sites, I went back a few days later to see what others had said about my posting.

I did a cut and past from the comments and replies from these Conservative Blog sites and pasted them as they were noted below:

  1. “Fighter For Faith From the Front Lines is a man who knows what is right and fighting the good fight trying to keep the liberal socializing programs out of the United States.”
  2. “It is obvious to me that Faith Fighter is a good Christian man doing God’s work.”
  3. “All those Liberals should be taken out and shot for trying to push their social liberal policies on the American citizens starting with Congress.”
  4. “Liberal’s are always trying to keep killing babies but when Sarah Palin gets elected President, she will get this stopped.”  When this happens then we will go after them.
  5. (I had to edit this rant down)  The flood of American liberals sneaking across the border into Canada has intensified in the past week, sparking calls for increased patrols to stop the illegal immigration.  The possibility of a McCain/Palin election is prompting the exodus among left-leaning liberals who fear they’ll soon be required to hunt, pray, and agree with Bill O’Reilly.  Canadian border farmer say it’s not uncommon to see dozens of sociology professors, animal rights activists and Unitarians crossing their fields at night.  Canadian citizens have complained that the illegal immigrants are creating an organic broccoli shortage and renting all the good Susan Sarandon movies.  Canadian is capturing these illegal liberals and sending them back to the United States.  Canadian can’t support all of those art history and English majors.  After all, how many of those people does one country need?  This is to the thanks to people like Fighter from the Front Lines doing their part to keep this country safe.
  6. God Bless Faith Fighter!!!!
  7. We all should put forth the same effort as Fighter.  I see the same people at the John McCain and Sarah Palin rallys doing their part.

This is just a snap shot of comments made to my piece.  As you can see, we have a good group of solid Conservative American Citizens and Faith Based political movement in this country that would make very good Nazis agreeing with Joseph Goebbels essay of 1935.
