Bad News for Fundamentalists: Sexual Orientation is Fixed

Surely the news will cause much anguish in the hallowed hallways of fundamentalist christian churches all across America. In an article published in the New York Times, Psychologists Reject Gay ‘Therapy’, the American Psychological Association declared Wednesday that mental health professionals should not tell gay clients they can become straight through therapy or other treatments.

One local blogger surely must be rattling off verses of Deuteronomy and Leviticus today, hoping that the Bible is more truthful than the American Psychological Association. After all, the Bible says...

The evangelicals and fundamentalists will, of course, deny the truth because their God could not produce a human being who, according to the ancient tribal writings, is an abomination! No, God makes only 'perfect' people. Pray away the gay!

In fact, there are many in those denominations who have heralded supposed 'cures' for gay and lesbians who attended christian therapy programs. There are even testimonials from the 'cured' about their new-found life.

The association said some research suggested that efforts to produce change could be harmful, inducing depression and suicidal tendencies. Instead of seeking such change, the association urged therapists to consider multiple options, which could include celibacy and switching churches, for helping clients live spiritually rewarding lives in instances where their sexual orientation and religious faith conflict.

Changing churches! Now, that's a hoot. Find a more tolerant christian church? What's wrong with that concept??

Love one another.
